Disney Reveals First Look at Villains Land — Opening 2027 at Magic Kingdom

Walt Disney Imagineering has finally pulled back the curtain on one of its most anticipated projects: Villains Land, a brand-new themed area coming to Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World in 2027.

A Land Unlike Anything Disney Has Built Before

Set in a dark, twisted version of a fairy tale forest, Villains Land will occupy the space behind Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. Disney describes it as “an immersive world where the villains have won” — a tonal departure from the optimistic energy that typically defines Magic Kingdom.

The land will feature two headline attractions:

1. The Forbidden Mountain — E-Ticket Coaster

A major indoor/outdoor roller coaster themed around Maleficent’s domain. Disney has confirmed it will feature a 100-foot drop into darkness, fire effects, and advanced audio-animatronics. Early reports suggest the ride system is a custom Vekoma multi-launch coaster.

2. Descent Into the Underworld — Dark Ride

A boat ride through the Underworld ruled by Hades from Hercules. Using projection mapping, practical sets, and water effects, guests will journey through the River Styx and encounter iconic Disney villains along the way.

Nighttime Spectacular

Villains Land will also host a nightly show called “The Wicked Ones” — a projection and drone spectacular that transforms the land after dark with villain-themed lighting and atmospheric effects.

The Bigger Picture

Villains Land is part of Disney’s massive $60 billion capital investment plan announced in 2023. It represents Disney’s direct response to Universal’s Epic Universe — and signals that the Orlando theme park wars are just getting started.
